ATQM (All The Queens Men) – Promo film from the Summer Campaign shoot.

Just thought I’d throw this one into the blog. Shot by the rather talented Mathew & Dominic during last weeks S/S campaign shoot for ATQM.

Enjoy.

An early peek at what I was shooting yesterday for design house ATQM.

I’ll simply add a quick run down of the components of us creating the appearance of beautiful golden late summer evening light when actually shooting in the middle of the day in Early March;

4 models
3 locations
1 make up artist
14 hour day
Freezing conditions (like actually below freezing)
Summer campaign
video crew
Car convoy around Liverpool
The worlds smallest florist shop
The worlds most awesome beaten up camper van
Over use of the phrase “think warm”
Being happy because somehow we picked our shoot day in between two days of blizzards.

So a good day all in all.

Plus a hint at what we came up with for new girl Natalie. I love it when you see the shot and then realise where the inspiration came from for it. Avedon has been a huge factor in a lot of my work (especially my B&W) so it’s nice to create an image which I feel pays total homage to the man and his work.

Walking upon the shoulders of giants

The image from my mind that sparked the idea for this shot. It’s amazing how our minds just hold these images until the right situation calls for them. I saw what Natalie was wearing and the big ol’ white space and figured why not give it a go.

Just in case you thought I may have run off, here we are back with just a subtle colour one.
This kind of image really speaks volumes about why it’s important for working fashion, beauty and commercial photographers to shoot tests. These are unpaid shoots where all those involved give up time in the hope of creating something new and different for portfolio use.
Take this image for example, the idea and concept I’d brought was a kind of black glitter beauty look. I’d spoken to Meg the MUA and we’d nailed down our inspiration images and ideas of how we planned to create it. From the start I had B&W images in my head yet the freedom of my own creative brief means that after a little post production I create this (alongside the pre-envisaged shots).

A moment of clarity and calm amidst the hustle and flow of a fashion campaign shoot.

Leica M6TTL
CV 40mm f/1.4
Kodak TMax400 X-Tol 1:1 (Film lovers don’t hate me for the TMax, It was honestly all I had left in the fridge that morning)

Yes the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the model number of my Leica has lost a couple of integers . . . . .
Bye bye M8.2 hello M6, hello LeicaLove. Only problem with it is it gets really really really cold when shooting outside in minus temps (I guess an all metal body will do that though, small price to pay for the pure pleasure that comes with creating photographs with it)

Busy times

I’m still here folks, just totally swamped at the moment. A quick heads up for any UK based readers that if you keep the above photograph in mind next time you head into a W H Smiths (or other large newsagents) you may discover why I’ve been a little quiet around these parts of late. No need to open the magazines this time (hint hint)
Just saying.

More on this maybe next weekend . . . . . . . . .
