FGY Rider Portrait Series – No. 13 Ross

web | blog | facebook

No I haven’t fallen off the planet, things have been a little busy around here of late but worry not here’s a new triptych to feast your eyes upon, along with a promise of some more very soon.

Lucky number thirteen from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

This time I bring a rather overdue portrait for Mr Ross. Why? Well Ross here is one of, if not THE founding member of FGY. He’s the man who gave up a considerable amount of time and effort into organising FGY’s inaugural Alleycat, the memorable Bridge to Far. A man who lives & breathes cycling of all natures (well maybe not recumbents). No other cyclist I know comes close to having so many bike come and go from their collection, he’s a one man bike rescue project.
Sadly no longer a York local we finally managed to add Ross to the project this week after a guest appearance at last nights ride.

FGY Rider Portrait Series – No. 12 Scott

Another somewhat long overdue rider portrait for the set.
Up this week Mr Scott, who has managed to unwittingly kick me into gear with this project again simply by the fact he’s leaving (now left) York. What you see here is a Scottish Scott ready to take on the elements. Actually you see us sheltering in the archway at the pub to take photos but whatever.
A man who loves his cycling, road, mountain, whatever he’s up for anything with two wheels and a human drive chain. We’ll miss ya Scott and for those lucky folk down on the South coast watch out for a ferocious Hipster chasing you down on his Brompton whilst whip skidding his way through the puddles (and mostly staying upright in the process).

Day 224 / 365

Deja Vu – The last ride I took the old E-PL2/20mm on, I got soaked and grabbed a few shots of the wet bike. Today the first ride I take the new E-P2/20mm on and ditto.
Still I do love riding in the rain sometimes. There’s something about riding in the rain that just makes everything seem okay with the world. Call me crazy (most people probably think I am as they see me rolling by with a big child-like grin upon my face.)

Happy to confirm the PEN survied its first test in the splashy stuff, although to be fair it only came out for a few minutes.

Also really glad I gave the bike a clean and oil the other day . . . . . . . . . . . .

FGY Rider Portrait Series – No. 11 Caddy

Day 194 / 365

The eleventh from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

Up this week Is Mr Michael Caddy, or Caddy for those in the know. This guy has been on the FGY radar for a while but I’ve only just managed to ride with him for the first time this last couple of weeks. Why the dirty hands, well from only three rides with this guy he’s had some oily mitts from tyre related maintainance twice, I figured it was a fitting tribute.
Top bloke and we’re all going to be a little worse off when he heads overseas later in the summer to teach English for a while.

Day 191 / 365

One from todays ride with friends new and old involving two frame builders (Mr Chris Bishop from Baltimore and Mr Ricky Feather from closer to home).
We figured a classic British styled track frame built by an American deserved a fittingly English backdrop.

Check out these two guys and the beautiful steel creations that spring from their minds & hands;

A fine day was had by all it would seem. Bikes, beers, good company, dogs, good food and miles and miles of smiles.

FGY Rider Portrait – No. 10 Adam

Day187, originally uploaded by bang*.

Day 187 / 365

The tenth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

This week Adam finally got his face in front of the camera. FGY’s own champion of the spin and owner of the shiniest wheels you’ve ever set eyes upon. Ladies and Gentlemen please be upstanding for Adam the Roller Race King.

Day 180 / 365

The ninth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.
Up this week it’s the turn of long standing FGY rider Ryan. The man with the (still disputed) longest skid title, currently learning to use his words in a journalistic styling. Again the look is that of a man being kept from his ale & midget gems, after a brisk chase back to the FGY office.

Day 164 / 365

The eigth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

I guess it had to happen sooner or later. A self-portrait, but luckily I’d had it in mind for a while seeing as I’m one of the FGY riders.
It’s no easy feat this self-portrait business.

Canon 5D mkii, 50mm f1.4 (well it obviously wasn’t shot on the Fuji)

FGY Rider Portraits – No. 7 Chad

Chad, originally uploaded by bang*.

Day 152 / 365

The seventh from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

This week we had the return of Chad. I remember first meeting Chad when he was riding a barely held together single-speed bike without any brakes, these days his ride is much more likely to survive a full ride, well almost right?.
Chad rides hard and will chase down anything with gears. The middle section of the portrait tells the story really.
You’ve been warned.

Day 145 / 365

New blood to FGY but already becoming a seasoned rider after his good showing at the Roller race & a few rides under his belt. Ladies & Gentlemen I present to you Robin.
