Sorry, I told you it’s been a busy month or so. Absolutely loads of new work shot so it’s about time I get to sharing some of it on here. Here are a few of the crop of images I shot with the brilliant Thembi Mkandla of Kate Waldron. Thembi hit me up with an idea of finding the least “English” looking beach we could whilst still not travelling too far from Manchester to shoot some summery beauty and swimwear stuff for both our portfolios. We found an awesome location or three thanks to the help of Alan, another photographer I know. He scouted us some great spots, hooked us up with space to base ourselves, humped my gear, drove people around, got sandwiches, and basically acted as a first rate second assistant whilst Michael (my usual assistant wrestled with the Rotalux in the wind). The beautiful designs we managed to acquire for the shoot came via Roscoe Forsythe a great Manchester stylist I’m happy to have made contact with, he pulled pieces from Joanne Miller & Laura Bancroft and they really took the whole ting to another level.

A great team, great weather and slightly more production value than some of my recent “simple” shoots. Fell in love with the tiny Elinchrom pack (well my assistant did as he could lug the thing around all day on his shoulders and didn’t moan too much).

Stills from the movies of my mind.

Leica M9, 50mm Summicron Type V.

So all has been a little quiet on the blog over the last month, sorry gang. It’s been a fairly busy one for me lately, numerous tests, agency meetings and a new look book shot for Educate Elevate has had me fully dedicated to ensuring clients receive images on time.

So I have plenty to pop up on here it’s just a matter of finding the time to flesh out some words to go along side.

That being said, here are a few teasers from a test I shot yesterday for Cliche new boy Darren. Having a background in acting certainly helped him get into the mood for this look.

#47 Triptych Portrait Series | EDUCATE ELEVATE

web | blog | facebook

A selection from the full set can be found here – www.bangphoto.co.uk/triptychs.
Currently in the process of setting up a place for the whole (current) set to reside.

This one is really veering off brief but with those colours I really had to step out of the monochrome.

Shot during the recent EDUCATE ELEVATE campaign, coming real soon.

Sorry old blog of mine it seems i’ve been neglecting you a little of late. Lots has been happening, plenty of new material shot, a good few irons in the fire coming up plus I’m starting to form a plan of where the second 50 Triptychs are going to take the project (once I get to 50 that is).
So for now you’re just going to have to make do with lots of beard as I splurge a little from this one. Currently formulation an editorial piece from it so enjoy.

How could I not shoot a triptych for the series whilst on set for this one?
Props to Cliche Model Management for hooking me up with Tony and thanks to the man and his beard.

Good vibes for the project as I hurtle towards #50.

More from the actual shoot in a day or two. Plus maybe one or two from a crazy shoot with the ILoveMCR team and Cliche Models. Which involved me going from 100ft in the air on the tiniest of platform to laying on the ground in a filthy alleyway. Just to prove that despite it looking glamorous the job of a fashion photographer can also be a pretty grubby and smelly affair. I know, poor me right?

The in betweens

A quick post just to confirm I’m still here. Busy with submissions, shoots, concept building and portfolio updates so just figured I’d post a few in betweens for you to stay in the loop.

Fashion portraits made in the in betweens, that moment just after one lie ends and another begins.

Away from the hustle of the studio, just the simplicity of my subject and myself.

ATQM (All The Queens Men) – Promo film from the Summer Campaign shoot.

Just thought I’d throw this one into the blog. Shot by the rather talented Mathew & Dominic during last weeks S/S campaign shoot for ATQM.

Enjoy.

I’ll simply add a quick run down of the components of us creating the appearance of beautiful golden late summer evening light when actually shooting in the middle of the day in Early March;

4 models
3 locations
1 make up artist
14 hour day
Freezing conditions (like actually below freezing)
Summer campaign
video crew
Car convoy around Liverpool
The worlds smallest florist shop
The worlds most awesome beaten up camper van
Over use of the phrase “think warm”
Being happy because somehow we picked our shoot day in between two days of blizzards.

So a good day all in all.

Two quick teasers from a little studio work yesterday with the Nemesis Model Management team (www.nemesisagency.co.uk/)

Plus a hint at what we came up with for new girl Natalie. I love it when you see the shot and then realise where the inspiration came from for it. Avedon has been a huge factor in a lot of my work (especially my B&W) so it’s nice to create an image which I feel pays total homage to the man and his work.

Walking upon the shoulders of giants

The image from my mind that sparked the idea for this shot. It’s amazing how our minds just hold these images until the right situation calls for them. I saw what Natalie was wearing and the big ol’ white space and figured why not give it a go.
