The second honourary International rider from the group & the first female (equal opportunities and all that).
This time I bring you Leigh, our honourary American rider. Not an actual York resident Leigh has somehow managed to partake in three of FGY’s most memorable rides, the “Sunday Socials”. We pretty much managed to bookend her time in the UK with rides. Ride one was shortly after her arrival, ride two was the celebration of her taking delivery of the fine stead you see here (built & personally delivered by non other than Mr Bishop himself) and the final ride before Leigh departs to Berlin granted her entry to our hall of fame.

Letting out a little of her inner hipster with the socks too, thanks Leigh. (I very nearly used the ridiculously smiley one)

FGY Rider Portrait Series – No. 11 Caddy

Day 194 / 365

The eleventh from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

Up this week Is Mr Michael Caddy, or Caddy for those in the know. This guy has been on the FGY radar for a while but I’ve only just managed to ride with him for the first time this last couple of weeks. Why the dirty hands, well from only three rides with this guy he’s had some oily mitts from tyre related maintainance twice, I figured it was a fitting tribute.
Top bloke and we’re all going to be a little worse off when he heads overseas later in the summer to teach English for a while.

Day 187 / 365

The tenth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

This week Adam finally got his face in front of the camera. FGY’s own champion of the spin and owner of the shiniest wheels you’ve ever set eyes upon. Ladies and Gentlemen please be upstanding for Adam the Roller Race King.

Day 180 / 365

The ninth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.
Up this week it’s the turn of long standing FGY rider Ryan. The man with the (still disputed) longest skid title, currently learning to use his words in a journalistic styling. Again the look is that of a man being kept from his ale & midget gems, after a brisk chase back to the FGY office.

Day 164 / 365

The eigth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

I guess it had to happen sooner or later. A self-portrait, but luckily I’d had it in mind for a while seeing as I’m one of the FGY riders.
It’s no easy feat this self-portrait business.

Canon 5D mkii, 50mm f1.4 (well it obviously wasn’t shot on the Fuji)

FGY Rider Portraits – No. 7 Chad

Day 152 / 365

The seventh from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

This week we had the return of Chad. I remember first meeting Chad when he was riding a barely held together single-speed bike without any brakes, these days his ride is much more likely to survive a full ride, well almost right?.
Chad rides hard and will chase down anything with gears. The middle section of the portrait tells the story really.
You’ve been warned.

Day 145 / 365

The sixth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

New blood to FGY but already becoming a seasoned rider after his good showing at the Roller race & a few rides under his belt. Ladies & Gentlemen I present to you Robin.

FGY Rider Portrait No. 5 – Matt

Matt, originally uploaded by bang*.

138 / 365

The fifth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

Back from the warmth of the South, MJ graced us with an appearance this evening. The FGY resident trick master, any bike that will take the abuse is fair game for Matt. The man has some pretty darn awesome design & print skills too.
I think the middle section probably tells most of the story for this one though.

FGY Rider Portraits – No. 4 – Ben

Ben, originally uploaded by bang*.

131 / 365

The fourth from this series of planned rider portraits for Fixed Gear York.

Despite the “Fixed Gear York” name, any rider is welcomed who embraces the one gear to rule them all mentality.
Unfortunately this week Ben’s fixed was in the bike shop for a fettle so he brought out the big guns. Ben is a man who can find an off-road route where none exists, give him two points and some time and the man will find you a route.
Single speed + bumps + dirt = a happy Ben.

Olympus PEN, 20mm

Probably have to redo this one when the bike is back from the shop.

Riders of the setting sun

Riders of the setting sun, originally uploaded by bang*.

A little extra from last night, a wicked sunset that had to be appreciated from atop a hill. The three FGY riders also happen to be the three I’ve already made portraits of.
